Councils have a duty to cut land fill waste, right? And to encourage people to do so in their homes, right? Perhaps not…
Someone round the corner from us put a request in to our local council for a second wheeled bin to meet the demands of their recycled bottles, tins, paper and card. A fair request, I thought, even though I expected it to be rejected by our backwards-thinking elected representatives.
But of all the excuses I considered the council would come back with — no, too expensive; no, make do with one; no, we’re too busy; yes, if you pay for it; and so forth — the one I totally didn’t expect was the one they used:
No, you’re obviously recycling too much.
Well I never.
